Indiana Beta was recently awarded “Best Integration of Values” by the Interfraternity Council for our newly established Gentleman’s Class. Seniors Nicholas Clark and Ian Stribling revamped the pledge education program this year by building on the pillar that men from the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity are gentlemen. In addition to the traditional lessons for pledge education they added classes to prepare the pledges for success upon initiation. These classes included multiple ways to tie a tie, a field trip to a men’s clothing store where they heard a guest speaker discuss men’s clothing trends as well as acceptable dress for various occasions, a focus on philanthropy, a lesson on goal setting, and speaking with women. The entire chapter is excited about the success of the program in its first year and is optimistic about its future growth. |

Riders Share in Special Training |
Riders on the Indiana Beta team were able to have a special experience while training in San Diego. Our coach, Jim Kaese, was able to arrange a private training ride with Chris Horner. Horner, a professional cyclist, has won several premier races in the US, and is a teammate of Lance Armstrong. He will be looking to earn a Tour de France roster spot this spring on the loaded team Radio Shack. Chris Horner trains for a few months each year in San Diego. The guys had a fantastic time, and enjoyed the unique experience. |

Philanthropy Wins Prestigious Metz Grant |
|
The new Phi Psi philanthropy, the Lake Lemon Triathlon, has won the prestigious Metz Grant. The Metz Grant Program comes from the Arthur R. Metz Philanthropic Opportunity Fund and is administered through the Indiana University Student Foundation Special Events Committee. The Metz Grant Program annually awards $50,000 in grant money; $25,000 in the fall and $25,000 in the spring. Arthur Metz is the same individual who donated the money for the bell tower next to the current fraternity house. The Lake Lemon Tri competed with many different organizations that were deserving of the award. The process consisted of brothers putting together a detailed grant proposal and a 10 minute presentation to a panel of judges. Phi Kappa Psi and the Lake Lemon Triathlon are very proud to have received this award which bring increased notoriety to the event as well as bring the total money in the first year to $20,000 raised with the additional $5,00 received. The brothers are looking forward to a successful event next year. Lake Lemon Triathlon Website |
